• Have the instructions to hand — or the IKEA product names so we know the models
• Clear the space — a bit of floor room speeds the build and protects the new furniture
• Decide the final position — tall units are anchored where they'll stay, so pick the spot first
• Flag anything missing — check the boxes arrived complete before assembly day
