Floor drain cleaning in Doha: the short answer
For bathroom drain cleaning in Doha, a blocked bathroom or kitchen floor drain typically costs QAR 120 to 250. A floor trap packed solid with sand is QAR 150 to 350, and every floor drain in one flat, cleaned in a single visit, is QAR 250 to 500.
Anti-odour and anti-cockroach inserts are QAR 80 to 180 each, fitted, and a replacement floor drain cover QAR 60 to 150. A call-out with no work done is QAR 50 to 150.
Is it only the floor drain?
If water comes up through the floor drain when the toilet flushes or the washing machine empties, the pipe below is blocked, not the floor drain. That is a job for drain cleaning.

Floor drain blocked or water standing on the floor
Under every floor grating sits a small trap: a cup that holds water to seal the pipe. It is only a few centimetres deep, so it fills with debris long before the pipe behind it blocks.
Pouring chemicals on top rarely helps, because what fills the trap is solid. The grating and the trap insert have to come out so the cup can be emptied and the outlet cleared.
If water still stands after the drain is clear, the tiles may slope away from the drain instead of towards it. Cleaning will not fix that, and we will tell you so rather than charge for it.

Why the bathroom drain smells
A floor drain that smells is almost always a trap that has lost its water seal. That water is the only thing between your bathroom and the air in the building's sewer pipes.
The trap has dried out
A guest bathroom nobody uses, a balcony drain, or a flat left empty over the summer. In Doha heat the seal can evaporate within weeks.
Fix: clean and refill the trap, and fit an anti-odour insert if the drain is rarely used.
Sand has made the seal shallow
Sand fills the bottom of the trap cup, so it holds only a thin film of water that dries in days.
Fix: empty the trap down to its base so it holds its full depth again.
The seal ring or insert is missing
Many floor drains have a removable plastic insert with a rubber ring. If it was thrown away during cleaning, or the ring has perished, air goes round the water.
Fix: a new insert or ring to suit the drain body.
The building pulls the water out
In towers, water rushing down the shared stack can suck the seal out of a floor trap on another floor. The trap is full in the morning and smells by the evening.
Fix: an anti-odour insert, which keeps the drain closed even when the water has gone.
Cockroaches coming from the floor drain
In apartment towers every floor drain connects to the same vertical pipes. Cockroaches live and travel in those pipes, and a dry or open floor trap is their way into the flat.
How they get in
Through a trap with no water in it, past a missing insert, or through the gap between the drain body and the tiles where the grout has cracked.
What stops them
A trap kept full of water, an anti-cockroach insert that only opens when water flows down, a cover with a fine grating, and the gap around the drain sealed. We do all of this in one visit.
When the building needs pest control
If cockroaches are breeding inside the building's pipes, they keep looking for another way in. The insert keeps them out of your flat, but the colony is a job for the building's pest control. We will tell you which problem you have.

Why does my bathroom drain smell after I come back from holiday?
The water in the floor trap evaporated while you were away. That water is the seal that keeps sewer air in the pipe, and without it the smell comes straight up through the grating. Pour a bucket of water into each floor drain. If the smell returns within a few days, sand has made the trap shallow or the seal ring is missing, and the trap needs cleaning.
How do I stop cockroaches coming out of the floor drain?
Keep the trap full of water, fit an anti-cockroach insert that only opens when water flows down, and seal any gap between the drain body and the tiles. If cockroaches are breeding in the building's pipes, the building also needs pest control. The insert keeps them out of your flat.
Do anti-odour floor drain inserts work?
Yes, against smell and insects coming up from the pipe. The insert is a small one-way valve that sits in the trap under the grating. Water pushes it open and it closes again on its own, so the drain stays sealed even when the trap is dry. Hair can hold it open, so it needs rinsing every few months.
Can you replace a floor drain cover?
Yes. We measure the old cover, usually a 10 by 10 or 15 by 15 cm square, a round cover or a long shower channel, and fit a stainless steel one that sits level with the tile. A cover with a built-in anti-odour flap is another option. If the drain body or the tile around it is cracked, we tell you before fitting.
Do I need building management permission for floor drain work?
Work inside your own flat does not usually need a permit, but many towers in West Bay, Al Dafna, Lusail and The Pearl ask contractors to register at reception or book the visit with the management office. Tell us the tower name when you book and we sort out the access with you.
