When a Repair Is Worth It
Most AC faults are cheap parts on an otherwise healthy unit. The expensive decision is the compressor.
Repair it
Unit under about eight years old, and the fault is a capacitor, fan motor, sensor, thermostat or a leak. These are the bulk of summer callouts.
Replace it
Compressor has failed on an older unit. The repair can cost close to half a new inverter unit, and the rest of the system is just as old.
And sell the old one
If you replace, the old unit has value. Selling your old AC takes some of the cost out of the new one.
