What Exactly Is Stopping the Door?
These are not the same job, and the price is not the same either. Naming it on the phone means we arrive with the right tools instead of coming back.
Keys Lost or Locked Inside
The lock is fine, you just cannot reach it. We open it without damage where the lock allows, then you decide whether to change the cylinder, because a lost key is somewhere.
Key Snapped in the Cylinder
Half the key is still inside. We extract the broken piece, test the cylinder, and tell you honestly whether it survived or needs replacing.
Key Turns But Nothing Happens
Usually a broken cam, a worn spindle or a failed gearbox inside the handle set. The cylinder is working; the mechanism behind it is not.
Door Jammed Shut
Nothing wrong with the lock at all. The door has swollen, dropped on its hinges, or the bolt is fighting a strike plate that has moved. Force makes it worse.
Digital Lock Dead or Locked Out
Flat battery, forgotten PIN or a fingerprint reader that stopped reading. Many have an emergency power contact or key override; we use those first.
Someone Locked Inside
A child, an elderly parent or a pet behind a bathroom or bedroom door. Say that first when you call — those go straight to the front of the queue.

Is It the Lock, or Is It the Door?
Half the “broken lock” calls we get in Doha are doors, not locks. This is the check we talk callers through on the phone.

Why it matters: if the bolt is not meeting the strike plate, a brand-new lock changes nothing — it will bind again within weeks. Aligning the door costs less than a lock. We Check the Door Is Yours
Any locksmith who opens doors without asking who you are will do the same at your door one day. Before we open, we ask for something linking you to the property: your Qatar ID with the address, a tenancy contract, a utility or Kahramaa bill, or confirmation from the building watchman or management. For an office, a staff ID and a word from the company.
If you have nothing with you — which happens, because your wallet is usually inside — a call to the landlord, the building management or a family member who can confirm you live there is normally enough. It takes two minutes and it is the reason your neighbour cannot have your door opened.
What we open, and what we do not
- We open: flats, villas, bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, shops, storerooms and roof doors
- We do not open: cars, safes, or any door where the person cannot show a connection to the property
- Landlord and tenant disputes: we stay out of them. If access is disputed, settle it first — we are locksmiths, not the referee
The three things that make a lockout cost more
1. Forcing it yourself. Prising the door edge, hammering the handle or levering the frame adds door repair to the bill and can bend the bolt so it cannot be opened cleanly any more.
2. Agreeing no price. In a lockout you are in a weak position. Get the call-out figure and the after-hours surcharge on the phone, from anyone you call, including us.
3. Letting someone reach for the drill first. Drilling destroys the cylinder, so you buy a lock on top of the call-out. Ask: will you try to open it without damage first?
From Your Call to Door Open
Four steps, and you know the cost at step one.
1. Call and describe the door
Which door, which lock, what happened, which area of Doha. We give the call-out price and any night surcharge on that call, plus a realistic arrival time.
2. We confirm it is your door
Qatar ID with the address, tenancy contract, a bill, or the building management confirming you live there. Two minutes, and it protects everyone in the building.
3. Non-destructive entry first
Picking, bypass or working the latch, so the lock survives. If the lock genuinely cannot be opened that way, we explain why and get your agreement before anything is drilled.
4. Make it secure again
Lost keys mean a key is out there. We can change the cylinder on the spot or fit a new lock, and we tell you when the old one is perfectly fine to keep using.

Not Being Locked Out Again
Most repeat lockouts in Doha follow the same pattern: a self-locking main door, a key left inside, and a family that has no second key anywhere nearby. These are the fixes that actually work here.
- Keep a spare with a person, not a place. A neighbour, a relative two streets away or the building watchman if your building allows it. Never under the mat or in the meter box — every thief in Doha knows those two spots
- Set one backup code on a digital lock for someone you trust, and note where the emergency power contact is before the battery dies
- Fix a sticking door early. A door that needs a shove today is the door that will not open at all in July, when heat and humidity swell it further
- Change the cylinder when keys are lost, not the whole lock. It is a fraction of the cost and it is the part that matters
- Moving into a new place? Change the cylinder on day one. You have no idea how many keys the last tenant handed out
If the door itself is the recurring problem rather than the lock, it is worth fixing properly — hinges, alignment, or a frame that has moved. Fitting a new lock to that door changes nothing. We free the door, then adjust the hinges, strike plate or door edge so it closes properly again.
Usually not the whole lock. Changing the cylinder is enough, because the cylinder is the part your lost key operates, and it costs a fraction of a full lock set. We change it on the spot in most cases. A full lock change makes sense only if the lock is old, damaged or was already failing before the keys went missing.
